I READ I LEAD:
Nashville's First Culturally Inclusive and Affirming City-Wide
Literacy Campaign for Black and Brown Boys
This MBK Nashville literacy campaign, I READ I LEAD, will have a heavy targeted countywide marketing component aimed to express the importance of the literacy crisis and the opportunities for Black and Brown boys. We will reiterate to our young males and their families the importance of literacy as a tool for liberation, self-agency, academic growth as well as exposure to the world around them.
We also will be ensuring this campaign will have a grassroots/community element that is cultural and socially inclusive and engaging. Critical to the success of our campaign will be the ways in which we narrate the data, and the necessary action steps, via an equity driven and culturally affirming lens.

Become a Literacy Superhero by clicking one of the buttons below to purchase a book from our MBK Nashville's Amazon Wish List, and the book will be shipped directly to MBK Nashville. You can also make a financial contribution to MBK Nashville through the donate tab of this website and we can make the book purchases on your behalf.
RISE, READ & LEAD Reading Mentor Events
MBK Nashville is proud to partner with various MNPS schools, the United Way, the Blueprint for Early Childhood Success, Humanities TN and the Juvenile Court Clerk's Office to recruit men to participate in this Reading Mentor Event. Once a month we ask men from the community to come together as Literacy Superheroes at a school or community space to read with our kids. We believe in a world where every child can read.

Nashville Public Library's Summer Reading Challenge
Reading is for everyone! June 1–July 31, join thousands of Nashvillians as we read (or listen to audiobooks!), earn prizes, and earn money for three deserving non-profit organizations. No library card required.
The Never-Ending Book Fair
As part of our distribution plan, MBK Nashville plans to partner with community organizations and agencies to host our Never-Ending book fair. Every time we show up at an event in the community, we will have books available to give to students to add to their home libraries. This tool will allow us to put culturally-affirming books directly in the hands of children that need them most, addressing book deserts and summer book droughts.
Books Brothers: Story Times with Men of Color
Books Brothers brings men of color to the classroom to promote literacy and serve as reading role models through pre-recorded videos. The volunteer readers share quality children’s books for K-3 students through video story times, with a focus on books that allow students of color to see themselves in the pages. Presented in partnership with Nashville Public Library, My Brother’s Keeper Nashville, Ingram Industries and United Way of Greater Nashville.
